Behavioral Question & Answer - Long Term Approach
Hey Jeff! I’ve just started my interview process for an entry level role at GCS. Specifically customer growth. (Recruiter call soon). Wondering if you have any tips or videos for entry level interviews at google/what to expect there. I’ve gathered plenty of questions to expect and to ask from your other videos so thanks for all you do!! Hoping to form a great relationship early on with my recruiter.
This is a great video, but it'd be really nice if it had a table of contents.
@ericgajdostik2612, thanks for the positive comment and the feedback!
Hi Jeff I've followed your videos for awhile now after getting contacted by a Google recruiter in May 24 for a brand new Data Center site (still in construction phase), went through the full interview process May 24 - Aug 24. I went through the full loop for a DCFT position and onto hiring committee. Just received news back after getting an update from my recruiter after roughly 2 weeks. He said overall the feedback was positive, however "We've filled all current spots for this quarter and It could pop up in the next few weeks, or it could be the first few weeks of Q3 when the request for X positions open up". I feel overall I nailed the interviews with your help, thank you very much for all your advice and knowledge! I know I missed a few technical questions other than that, a solid 9/10. What advice would you give for someone like myself, is there really any chance I get a call back? It appears I've went through the entire process and wasn't even considered because they've, like the recruiter said, filled all the open positions before my interview process was done. Thankyou!
@buseyx, what I have seen historically for these DC positions is that this is very common. They have good candidates pass the interviews and they fill all their headcount. These roles open up pretty often, so I still think you have a good chance! Make sure you touch base with your Recruiter every couple of weeks. Ideally, you ask them how often is appropriate to check in, but a month between check ins at the longest. Good luck and keep us posted!
@jeffhsipepi Thank you for the reply! I'll do that and to keep in contact with the recruiter. Hopefully, it works out.
A lot of regulation through the euro commission (Brussels), so not surprised EMEA hiring is slow
@yeecanuck, thank you so much for providing that context for the community!!
Hi Jeffrey, awesome content as always🎉 I just went through onsite interviews at a FAANG and your videos have helped me immensely. My recruiter told me explicitly that interviewers would NOT focus on a specific skill set (statistics). However, my first interview was COMPLETELY focused on stats, which completely surprised me. How can I approach this issue with the recruiter without negatively impacting my chances? Thanks
@joaopaulogomes2559, this was a big theme in yesterday's live session! I strongly encourage you to provide feedback to your Recruiter as soon as possible. Make sure the tone is gentle and grateful, for example "Sue, I want to follow up with you regarding yesterday's interview. The interviewer focused entirely on statistics and I was under the impression that statistics would not be a part of this interview. I want to make sure I give myself the best opportunity to land the role, so I thought it was important to provide this feedback. Thank you so much!" Something like that, good luck and keep us posted!
@@jeffhsipepi fantastic, thanks for the guidance!
Hi Jeff! First of all, thank you for providing us with such incredible content. It has really been enlightening! And I’d like to thank you for the compromise of answering the questions from everyone you can across all these years! I’d like to make a question too. I think I did pretty well on my on-site interviews for a SWE position, and 1 and a half week later my recruiter told me they wanted to complete my packet with my CV, Transcript and other data. Does that mean I’m going to HC right now or that I’ve passed it? This 1 week interval made me think i was going through it.
@yrmew7452, thank you so much for the positive feedback! Yes, this sounds like you are going to HC and or you are making it to the final stages of the process. Sometimes, Recruiters at Google fail to provide more specific details/context to candidates to help them understand exactly where they stand. It is 100% okay to check in with them to get more clarity. I wish the best of luck!!
@@jeffhsipepi thank you so much! In my case, my recruiter specifically told me they “cannot give any more details since it is an internal stage” and that my process was “not over yet”. Throughout my whole process I’ve been informed I’d not be receiving any specific feedback at the end of it. I wonder if thats a new policy, because my position that had too many candidates or is a regional thing (I’m from Latin America)
@@yrmew7452 Ok, but this is a poor communication tactic on their end, a little more context without revealing anything to you is very easy for them to do. Keep us posted!
Thanks for addressing this Jeff! I was wrestling with this as well
@SamRao, I am so glad you found this short helpful!
Hey Jeff, I passed Google’s hiring assessment, but haven’t heard back since. I’ve been in telecom account management for 12 years. Could it be that I don’t have Google Ads sales experience? Or will they reach out if there’s a suitable role for me?
@ArmanOvi, I am happy to hear you passed the assessment, you have to get past this step. Unfortunately, clearing the assessment does not guarantee and interview. If you are trying to get an Account Strategist role, typically, you do not need previous Ads experience. They will reach out if you are a fit for a role, and I recommend to keep applying and obviously, get referred in if you can, good luck!
hi Jeff, when talking about weakness - can i say i am more of a self reliant and independent person so i am working on my skill to ask help from others in my personal projects and get their view as well so that i can grow and understand things better. hopefully it will not showcase that i lack collaboration skill. as it is important for the role i am interviewing for. @jeffhsipepi
@sanchitasharma8007, yes, I think this is a good area to bring up and definitely (as you mentioned) talk about the fact that you have been working on improving this skill. It shows that you are currently collaborative and working to become even more collaborative!
Hi Jeff! I've used a lot of the advice used in your videos to land a job at Amazon. Thank you so much for putting so much helpful advice out there :-) Secondly, having a positive mindset has seriously had a impact on my interpersonal connections both in my personal and my professional circles. I wish I had started practicing ten years ago but better late than never :-) More specifically, having a positive growth mindset, a 'miss' is really an opportunity to learn. This is the easiest way I have found to practice this. I am really critical of myself but I just focus on one thing at a time and consciously try to improve at that one thing. Also, if I catch myself thinking negatively, I deliberately think of it in a positive light. It's something I had to practice really hard until it started to click. I know sometimes my friends get a little tired of hearing about positivity, but it's 1000x better hearing someone complain about everything.
@jakewatkins1116, thank you so much for the positive feedback and congrats for landing a job at an elite company like Amazon!!! And, thank you so much for sharing more about your personal journey. The number one item I have been criticized for over the years on RUclips is my "toxic positivity!" I will always default to positivity, because the alternative is...
How to get placed in top companies in any industry even with some shortcomings like for example lesser experience.. what factors work extremely well in our favour when it comes to differentiate ourselves or project some sort of expertise.. which ideas actually work..
@mohibquadri4053, in regards to getting interviews, this will really be about your ability to network and ideally get referred. In regards to examples, it is all about taking the time to write down your best examples and then continuing to work on them, edit them, and practice with AI tools/other humans!
@@jeffhsipepi Got it 😊 & after getting the interview what should be next steps to clear it effectively.. what they like the most in their desired candidate..
@@mohibquadri4053 clear and concise answers backed with positivity, and great questions at the end!
Hi everyone! It is really important to focus on positivity during your job interviews! I really hope these simple tips and tricks allow you to have greater success, thanks!
Google APMM internship interview advice?
@youngaurath2985, typically, APMM (Associate Product Marketing Manager) roles will have a limited number of interviews and Associate roles focus more on behavioral than hypothetical questions, but expect both! Spend time writing out and practicing your behavioral answers and thinking through scenarios you might face in the role to get prepared for potential hypothetical questions, good luck!
@jeff What should be the duration of an answer for such behavioural questions for Google and big tech? Consultants typically try to keep it within 2mins.
@jasmitkalra3297, so this is just my personal opinion, but I really struggle to learn "how" candidates past performance is a good predictor of future performance when the answers are 2 minutes or less. I simply do not know enough about the actions you took to understand the impact, and translate that into hiring. My recommendation is 3-4 minutes, broken down as follows: Situation and Task - 30-40 Seconds Actions - 2-3 Minutes Results - 30-40 Seconds I hope this feedback helps! Almost all the data online tells us 1-2 minute behavioral answers, it's just not long enough in my opinion.
Thank you so much jeff! If the initial package is much lower than my expectation ( for example RSU is almost half of my expectation). If I tell them my actual expectation, would it be greedy for them and bad signal? And if i already adjusted my expectation to a lower number, will they likely to still give a final number 20-30% lower than my proposed expectation? thank you!!!
@shirleygui6533, if your Recruiter presented your first offer with no negotiation, it is very likely the equity can more than double. Anchoring high is just how it goes at Google, ask for more base, 3X the equity (at least) and ask for a sign-on bonus. Go big! Good luck!!
You are a legend, thank you for spending so much time and effort by making these videos. They have proven to be very helpful so far in my interview process for Google, and I plan on using your tips to navigate my upcoming phone screen.
@nicks8776, thank you so much for the positive feedback! Good luck on your upcoming phone screen!!
What does Hire/By Pass or EC Approved for Project Search meaning for software engineering internship position? Is this mean hiring committee approved or approval will be happen after team matching? Recruiter send email that project matching will start around December.
@user-vu8jp3si2r, I would ask the same question of your Recruiter. This may mean for this internship you would simply need to team match and have a final review by the Executive Committee to get approval on your offer.

Do you provide one or multiple solutions?
@AmburrrrKC, ideally, yes! The goal is to make it conversational, after your first solution you try to draw your interviewer in for more by saying "we could dive deeper into x or move onto y, what do you prefer?" It is necessary to have a strong transition statement to be able to provide more solutions.
Amazing video. Thank you. Here's really hoping you will make a separate video on just the shared vision and talking about it components. It would make a great video. Thanks again.
@keepingitdownwiththepashas, I take all video requests seriously, it is something I will consider. I do recommend utilizing Gen AI to help you uncover the critical components of shared vision.

@yourlittlefriend-ub3fk, 😬
Hey Jeff, I have applied to a Data Center Technician role and passed all my interviews, is there a good chance I would get a fit call even if I haven't heard back after a week? Last I heard was that the hiring team was still looking to see if I am a good fit. And is there anything I could do to have a better chance of getting the job? Thanks!
Also - any advice on the (potential) fit call would be nice!
@pelusarita, if you have not heard back in a week, I would check in today. There is really nothing you can do at this point to strengthen your case, you have done the hard work of doing well in the interviews. Good luck!
@pelusarita, watch this video - ruclips.net/video/qZyolGecJMc/видео.html
Thank you Jeff! Looks like someone internal took the last spot there was available, but my recruiter said there’s a possibility for more openings soon. Hopefully by next month, but I’m not sure if that’s certain or not. Just waiting to hear back now
@@jeffhsipepiand thank you for the video recommendation! I’ve been watching that one along with a few others, I appreciate the tips!
Hey Jeff, thank you so much for all your resources! But was wondering if you'd know if what you talked (i.e the process, number of rounds, and types of interviews) about still remains relevant in 2024? I'm preparing to interview for a policy role within Google.
@wt9837, yes, all the info in this video should still be relevant. For a policy role you could have as few as 3 interviews, but it likely will not exceed 4. RRK, GCA, and G&L interviews. Good luck!!
@@jeffhsipepi oh wow that is great to know. Why do you think that is the case? I'm nervous they'll throw a presentation or case study at me. Thank you so much for responding btw, god bless you for helping us aceing Google interviews - this is literally life changing for me.
@@wt9837 Policy roles have not historically had presentation/case study interviews. If and when you interview for a policy role at Google, you can always double check with your Recruiter whether these types will be included, but I have not see it personally.
Hey Jeff, Just wanted to take a moment to say - thank you and you rock! I just got my offer letter from Google and your content has been pivotal for me to navigate through the entire process and finally ace. Hope you continue to do what you do, much love!
@pbhatia24, AMAZING, CONGRATS!!!!! I wish you the best of luck at Google!

@amrithas1188, thank you so much for the positive feedback. We had a free course for 15 months to get user feedback and then we created a paid course. You can learn more about my course and AI product by visiting my website - www.practiceinterviews.com/
Hey Jeff, got all my interview rounds completed at Google for Vendor Management role last week. I feel the 1st 3 rounds were great including skip level but last round with Hiring manager wasn't that great. Now waiting for Recruiter feedback, what's your guess?
FYI: My skip level happened before hiring manager (wasn't planned before) to decide which role to be more suitable out of two roles in VM org, as I got a great feedback in 1st round. Later, my hiring manager got sick and another manager took hiring manager round which i feel didn't go well last week compared to first 3 rounds
@imprem_prakash, unfortunately, without direct access to the feedback, I would just be guessing. Remember, it is about the collective feedback, not one interview. Good luck, keep us posted.
@imprem_prakash, ok, yes, it is always tricky when things get switched around and this is part of the luck component of the process, please keep us posted!
Kenya
@Steposhina, thanks for tuning in from Kenya, I love my global audience! Fun fact, one of my college roommates is from Kenya.
What are your thoughts on making context concise in actions section? With the intent of building conversation with the interviewer so they ask questions to clarify or elaborate on parts of my story.
@AmburrrrKC, great question! A little bit of very concise context here or there can be helpful. Remember to stick to what you did and how you did it, and adding a few words or a sentence of context two to three times throughout your actions could add value.
It's been 2 years since I started watching your videos and yesterday I just landed an offer for a technical role! Your information in your videos is incredibly valuable!!!!
@IXBoyI, AMAZING, CONGRATS!!!!!!!!! I wish you the best of luck in your new role and thank you so much for the positive feedback!
Hello Jeff, How should one go about on the expectation (Base, Bonus, GSU, Relocation) for L5 or L6?
@mahendraperiyadanam3801, when it comes to setting expectations in general, try to understand/ask the companies negotiation philosophy. In this case, you seem to be referencing Google, so you can start by anchoring high, this typically means asking for 30% more than you want. The most flexible item is equity, followed by a sign-on bonus (sometimes). The base will only move a little, the bonus and relocation package are not negotiable. For L5 or L6 understand your role in your current market, Google pays based on level, role, and location (cost of labor).
@@jeffhsipepi Thanks a lot, Jeff for the insights 🙂
This content was very helpful Jeff. Thank you for summerizing this well..!!
@beatalert123, thank you for watching, I know this subject area can be really confusing!
Hi everyone, in this video I cover an extremely common behavioral question for anyone working in a role that deals with external clients/customers. I hope you find this video helpful, thanks for watching!
One question which always came in my mind is - How can an individual play an important or outstanding role in making his company a top player in market lets say an engineering construction company.. what are contributions which can lead to faster growth of company from an employees perspective who wish to skyrocket his own career path also in the journey.. which books would be essential around this topic..
@mohibquadri4053, just so I am clear, is this the type of question you would like me to cover in a new video or are you simply asking me to answer these questions, I want to make sure I am being helpful!
@@jeffhsipepi If it's going to take some time for making video you may answer it here or if video is going to come in next few days then detailed analysis would be beneficial too.. it's your choice as you feel 😊
Hi Jeff Can you make video for customer facing roles GCA questions. (Account strategist specifically if possible) 😊
@@mohibquadri4053 with all video requests, it is added to my list, but I cannot guarantee that I will produce it. If you can now provide the specific role you would like to solve for, I can help more.
@@sanchitasharma8007 I take all video requests seriously and it is something I will consider. I strongly recommend that you go through the GCA content on my channel that targets helping in the GCA interviews for all roles.
Hi Jeff, I am having all 3 interviews the same day for the Account Strategist position (Junior with 1 year of xp). I have watched a lot of your videos but am still afraid of Role Related interview and GCA. Do I have to expect very difficult technical questions ?
@JeeceHo, Account Strategists are not asked technical questions. It is important that you prepare/practice and spend time leaning more about Google Ads. Good luck!!
@@jeffhsipepi thank you ! I was thinking that I’d be put in situation with questions about the strategy to adopt for a certain type of companies. This is very reassuring, thanks a lot !

Seniors say that changing companies is the fastest way to increasing our pay, top companies in each industry pays the most..so how to get into them hired by them early on in career ? What do they look for in candidates other than technical skills and how to create a personality which is suitable for their organization ie makes us hard to overlook in interview process.. what book suggestions can help also..
@mohibquadri4053, yes, moving jobs constantly can often lead to higher pay, it usually does not benefit the employee the longer they stay at one company. Getting hired by a tech company takes strong role/skill alignment and obviously, great interview skills. What they look for, really depends on the role and all roles require strong communication skills. I recommend any book that focuses on communication!
@@jeffhsipepi Thanks a Ton 😊
I got an interview question with Google about “why Google?” “What happens when you make a huge mistake or your project fails?” I have never seen your videos covering this but I think I managed anyway. Are these common questions?
@JoLap42, This short should help, and if you want more context, I have created a number of videos on this subject - ruclips.net/user/shortsfdJPJI7KEBQ
Your videos are getting even better over time. Thank you!
@JoLap42, thank you so much for the positive feedback! Almost at 6 years on YT, so hopefully I have gotten a little better over time 😂
Would you be able to share more hypothetical questions for an account manager role?
@JoyOhenhen, paste the job description into ChatGPT and ask it to create hypothetical questions based on the JD.
Salad analogy was great but than you just ruined everything trying to explain the technology. Even i had my brain exploded after this explanation though I got 20+ years of experience in IT. Poor grandma. So what that salad analogy was for? 🤔
@Fedkar, thanks for the feedback!
Hey Jeff, thank you so much for this, just cleared my first round in my Customer Engineer interviews. Fingers crossed for the GCA round!!
@TonyStark-y5x, amazing, good luck! Remember in the GCA round, whatever they ask you in regards to hypothetical questions, always solve it like you are already in the CE role.
@@jeffhsipepi Will do Jeff. I've been going through your recent uploads on GCA. Will keep this thread posted. Thanks again!! 😊
Hey Jeff There is hardly any information available for Account Manager, google ads. Please share a CFAS framework for them and some behavioural and hypothetical questions to practice and if you could just explain 1-2 of them in any of your videos! Please 😊
@sanchitasharma8007, the Account Strategist (AS), Account Manager (AM), and Account Executive (AE) roles all have some of the same core responsibilities so I have included the AS video for you - ruclips.net/video/jf4DvVv_l18/видео.html. The AM role will have wider scope and more strategy. Thank you for your advice to create these videos. I take all video recommendations seriously and I will consider doing some of this content in the future, thanks!
Hey Jeff, Thank you so much for your content, Its really helpful, I have a question - so I already told them my current comp and expectation (came across your channel after doing so :( ) and I have realized that Its lower than the base range for the role, how can I negotiate with the recruiter to bring it significantly up to align it to market trends and to make it fair to me?
@harshaheda29, it is always okay to tell your point of contact, "after learning more about the role and responsibilities and meeting with the team, I do need to reset set my compensation expectations." Say with a kind and gracious tone, and remember, we can always ask for more! Good luck!!
No interviewer should take notes during the interview that would interrupt or slow down the candidates from their thoughts. Interviewer should remember and write down notes right after the interview is over. If candidates allow, then capture the video and take notes from there.
@mahendraperiyadanam3801, so I have to kindly disagree with your comment, I think all interviewers should take notes. I do not believe that interviewers can remember everything that candidates say, and the expectation is that interviewers in 2024 should have strong typing skills so that their brain is able to take notes and process at the same time. Thank you for taking the time to watch and comment!
@@jeffhsipepi Thanks Jeff 🙂
